DEPARTMENT OF TOURISM AFFAIRS

Responsible for the following activities:

- Statistics. The department collects occupancy, revenue, labor and guest nationality statistics from the majority of hotels in Oman on a quarterly basis.

- Hotel & Restaurants classification and quality control. The department is responsible for the classification of hotels and the subsequent monitoring of the prescribed standards.

- Licensing. The department is responsible for the issuing of operating licenses to hotels, tour operators, travel agencies, restaurants, business camping sites, festivals, game shops and water sports.

- Follow Up. The department is responsible of following-up tourism establishments and activities to insure that they are working in the frame of tourism rules and regulations.

- Government-owned hotels. The department is responsible for acting as the owner's representative for the three government-owned hotel in Muscat- Al Bustan Palace, the InterContinental and the Novotel at Seeb International Airport. The government also owns the Holiday Inn in Salalah and Oman Dive Center.

- Visas. Liasion with ROP regarding visa administration and regulation.
