The laboratory
undertakes the chemical analysis of a very wide range of materials for example
all type of detergents, PVC pipe and tissue paper including the analysis
of water for all purposes industrial, drinking, recreational and also waste
water and industrial effluents. The laboratory also undertakes the analysis of raw materials such as cement, sand, aggregate, rock and gypsum…etc. |
| Also
the laboratory is responsible for the analysis of the radioactive contamination
in foodstuffs samples. The work of chemical analysis was carried out before by traditional wet chemistry methods but now the use of sophisticated electronic analytical instrumentation has increased the scope of analysis carried out for example: - Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer and Polarographic Analyzer used to determine the concentration of the metals in water, soil ...etc. - UV Spectrometer to determine concentration of heavy metals and radicals e.g. silicate, phosphate and nitrate in water samples. - X - Ray Spectrometer used for various samples to detect the elements. - Gamma -Ray Spectrometer, which used to determine the radioactive contamination in foodstuff, samples. The laboratory also provide a general analytical service to both public and private sectors and, within its capability, undertakes to analyze any sample and provide not only analytical results but also technical advise relating to the sample, the aim being to assist the development of industry and to protect the health and safety of the people in Oman.
