Introduction The Directorate General for Specifications and Measurements (D.G.S.M) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry is the National Standards Body of SULTANATE OF OMAN. Established by the Royal Decree No. 39/76 (20 October 1976) and its duties and functions defined by the Royal Decree No. 1/78 (3 January 1978), the D.G.S.M is responsible for the Standardization, Metrology, Testing, Conformity Assessment, Quality Control and Quality Assurance activities in SULTANATE OF OMAN. Mission of Directorate General for Specifications and Measurements The mission of the Directorate General for Specifications and Measurements (D.G.S.M), the National Standards Body for Oman established by a Royal Decree of His Majesty, the Sultan of Oman, is to provide responsive, cost-effective and reliable Standards, Metrology, Testing, Quality Assurance and Conformity Assessment services to the Government, public and private sector industry and enterprises and the common consumer in the overall interest of the nation, safety, health and quality of life of society. Vision of Directorate General for Specifications and Measurements The Vision of Directorate General for Specifications and Measurements (D.G.S.M) is to become a National Standards Body of International Stature and create a niche at National and International level. |
