INTRODUCTION
The Directorate General of Minerals was set up to carry out geological studies,
prepare geological maps, and explore (mine and manage the geological and
mineral sectors) in the Sultanate of Oman under the Royal Decree of Petroleum
and Minerals Law of 1974. The Directorate General of Minerals consists of
the following 5 departments in Muscat with their technical activities outlined
under them in addition to a regional office under the Directorate General
of Commerce and Industry in Salalah.
The main aims and objectives of all departments are to survey, explore for
minerals, and manage operations of the mineral sector in the southern region
of the Sultanate of Oman under the directives of the Directorate General
of Minerals in Muscat.
