OF TECHNICAL SERVICES 1. The main tasks of this department are as follows: - To manage the minerals laboratory in terms of staff, equipment, analyses and their daily needs of materials - To provide the technical support for the geologists of the Geological Survey, Mineral Exploration and Mining departments and other geoscientists in terms of the equipment and transport - To Publish and sale of geological documents (Maps, Books, Reports and Scientific publications) prepared mainly by the Department of Geological Survey - To maintain inventory of geological maps, documents and equipment 2. Mineral Laboratory The Directorate General of Minerals has its own mineral laboratory to meet the needs of its own Geological survey, Mineral Exploration and Mines and Quarries departments. The laboratory was established in 1982. It is staffed with experienced analytical chemists and assayers and equipped with latest technologically advanced instruments in the field of chemical and mineralogical investigations. Following equipment are present in the laboratory: - Induced Current Plasma Spectrometer - X-Ray Deffractometer - X-Ray Spectrometer - Atomic Absorption Spectrometer - Fire Assay unit - Complete Thin Section Preparation equipment - Diamond Saw - Complete set of sieves The Mineral Laboratory specializes in all the analytical techniques required in the field of geology, and mineral exploration. The laboratory also carries out analyses for different other Govt. Departments and private industrial and commercial sectors on payment with priority to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry samples.
