DEPARTMENT OF PROJECT DEVELOPMENT

Department of Project Development was set up in 1999 with an aim to liaise with the private sector in developing mineral-based projects in the Sultanate of Oman. Many mineral-based projects have been identified where feasibility studies or detailed studies on minerals are completed. The Department of Project Development in collaboration with the private sector will develop these mineral-based projects. Deaprtment of Project development has accumulated various policies realted to the mineral sector that can be used to attract the private sector in mineral development.

Oman's economic vision stresses to continue mineral exploration so that mineral-based industries can be set up.

Oman's mineral policy also states that companies will be encouraged to utilize the locally available material for the local industries, export minerals if it is in surplus and avoid monopolization of exploitation of minerals by one company.

There are many attractions for investment in the mineral sector including the favorable royalty that is charged by the govt. on exploitation of minerals.

There are about 9 projects that the Department of Project Development has identified for immediate development. View Map

A table is also attached showing the mineral production for 1998 and 1999.
